Beschreibung

This inspiring book based on a series of passionate and illuminating conversations between two dear friends discusses everything from God, music, friendship, teaching, death, and more. One friend is religious scholar, poet, and teacher of mystical traditions, Andrew Harvey. The other is acclaimed pianist, composer, and teacher Seymour Bernstein. At 87 and going strong, Seymour has become an inspiration to thousands of people across the country thanks to the recently released and critically acclaimed documentary Seymour: An Introduction, which led to the idea for this book. In Conversations with Seymour, readers will learn more about themselves through the insight observations of Bernstein and Harvey.

Andrew: In you, Seymour, they see someone who didn't allow his suffering to define his life. And I think that any human being seeing another so exposed but so quietly brave is immensely encouraged. We all share the same vulnerabilities and fragilities, but very few of us decide to enact the deepest part of ourselves even though we all know that's where our true happiness lies. Seymour: They see me acting out triumph over adversity, and they see how much I love my pupils. We all have to find the right mentor. But we also have to take life into our own two hands and not totally depend on anyone else to save us. We have to save ourselves while learning as much as we can from the mentors that we choose to help us.
